Surgery
The surgery that Maisie needs is called an Occipitocervical Fusion. This is a fusion from the skull to T3.

It is a complicated and long surgery with many risks involved. The Surgery could take 8-12 hours to complete.

Maisie must arrive in Spain about 3 days before surgery takes place as she will need pre op testing.

The material used in the fusion is made from titanium, titanium alloy, jazz bands and donor bone.

After Surgery

After Surgery Maisie will spend 2 days in ICU and will spend 24 hours in an induced coma. After those 2 days Maisie will be moved to a room and will stay there until she is deemed well enough to be discharged.
We will stay in a hotel close to the hospital until she is deemed fit to travel home. We are expected to have to stay in Barcelona for 4-6 weeks.
Once we are home we will continue rehabilitation, which will also be a long journey for her to go through.

After surgery Maisie will have limited mobility in her neck and will need physiotherapy to adapt and build strength in her neck and back.
Surgery Cost & Location
Maisie's surgery will take place at Teknon Medical Centre in Barcelona.
The total cost of surgery is €51,590/£45,000.
